Altweb This is run by the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing at Johns Hopkins. Their search engine uses several databases including Medline, AGRICOLA, and Toxline. The database is designed to help researchers search for alternatives to animal testing.

CRIS (Current Research Information System) This is the USDA's documentation and reporting system for ongoing and recently completed research projects in agriculture, food and nutrition, and forestry.

CRISP
(Computer Retrieval of Information on Scientific Projects) This is the NIH database of PHS-funded grant proposals for biomedical research. From this page, click on "Go to CRISP Current Awards Query Form" to search for contemporary research. You'll have the best luck by keeping your searches simple. Don't take this resource for granted, but don't accept your findings as the final word on the subject.

This all-purpose database lets you search federal web sites.

Medline/PubMed
With this National Library of Medicine database you can search a very comprehensive array of medical journals. Find out what your favorite researcher has published!
